Local Surf Club gets an epic glow-up — and you're all invited

If you’ve ever spent a salty afternoon in Coolum, chances are you’ve found yourself drifting towards the heart of the village—the Coolum Surf Club. Perched right on the sand, it’s where locals gather after a swim, where surf carnivals come to life, and where generations of lifesavers have kept watch over this golden stretch of coast.

Now, this Sunshine Coast icon is stepping into a bold new chapter, unveiling a jaw-dropping renovation that promises to not only change how locals eat and play, but also level-up Coolum’s status as a destination to live, work, and holiday.

After months of anticipation (and plenty of locals peeking through the construction fencing), the doors officially swing open on Friday 29 August 2025, revealing a major transformation of the much-loved venue.

Think: a sleek new arrival foyer, an upgraded gaming lounge, refreshed sports bar, reimagined dining and lounge spaces, plus a sprawling northern beachfront deck where cocktails meet uninterrupted ocean views. All self-funded by the Club, this major glow-up proves Coolum’s Surf Club is here to do more than just keep pace with its coastal cousins—it’s setting the bar.

More Than Just A Surf Club

The Surf Club has always been the beating heart of the Coolum community, and the renovation doubles down on that role. Alongside dining, it’s a space for events, entertainment, and celebrations; a hub where families, friends, and visitors mingle. And in a small town where local jobs matter, the expansion also means over 20 new staff are being welcomed aboard—another boost to the seaside village.

Coolum Surf Life Saving Club, which calls the venue home, remains firmly at the centre of the story. As you wander through the new spaces, nods to the Club’s lifesaving legacy are everywhere, honouring the decades of volunteers who’ve patrolled the beach and kept swimmers safe.

The Food (we know that’s what you’re really here for)

The menu is surf club dining with serious flair. Sure, you’ll still find your pub classics (a perfectly grilled steak, crispy schnitzel, loaded parmigiana, pizzas, burgers, nachos), but there’s also plates that wouldn’t look out of place in a city dining precinct.

Think karaage chicken and fluffy steamed bao buns, Atlantic salmon swimming in a fragrant Thai yellow curry, and vibrant salads including a zingy Thai beef noodle number and a vibrant Japanese Zen bowl. Seafood, of course, takes centre stage, with local catches served up as fresh as the ocean breeze rolling in from the balcony. And for the little nippers? A dedicated kids’ menu keeps everyone happy.

Throw in weekly specials, raffles, and promotions, and it’s safe to say your Sunday Session, midweek catch-up, or celebratory dinner just found its new home.
